My name is Lorene Bronner Author and publisher of “Growing in Faith, A true Bronner Story, widow and mother to seven daughters. I published a book of my favorite Scriptures from the KJV of the Bible at age 80, which I gave to my guest who attended my 80th Birthday Party given by my daughters, my first book about my life was published in 2018 at the age of 84.
I was born and raised in the deep south of Alabama and moved to Philadelphia as a teenager. After High School I attended Temple University night school until I started working at the Custom House at 2nd& Chestnut Sts. For the Civil Service Commission. I resigned after two rs of service. Later, I graduated from the school of Cosmetology and pursued a limited career in the field. Lorene and Husband Charles (deceased) owned and operated Bronner’s Lounge during the 70’s in West Philadelphia for 8 years of the 23 years we were married.
For 20 years, I worked as Secretary/Administrative Assistant to two pastors at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in West Philadelphia, also worked as a Sales Manager for the World Book Encyclopedia Company for numerous years. During this time, I went back to Temple to hone my skills in computers. During this same period, I worked part-time with my youngest daughter, (deceased) Sonja J. Bronner Regional Manager for our relatives Bronner Brothers’ /Upscale Magazine in the Northeast for numerous years. After retirement from Mt. Pisgah, I continued to work with Sonja.
I am an active member of Nazarene Baptist Church for over 50 years and sang on the Senior Choir for over 30 years. A member of the Senior Saints Bible Study Group. I am also a member of the Nazarene’s Widows group. I participate in Nazarene’s Prayer Ministry.
Lorene organized a widow’s group for the King David Masonic Lodge #52 and published a newsletter periodically entitled “Widow’s Update for 31 years assisted by Alice Baker. I served as secretary of the 1400 Grange Street Block Club for numerous years and lived on the block for 45 years, also owned and operated a rental duplex property on the same block for 13 years, before selling my home and rental property, downsizing to an apartment, and moving to Newark, DE to live with my daughter, Dr. Tauheedah Bronner.
I support many organizations that I feel do great work to help all people such as: NAACP, NAN, AARP, WURD Radio, Easter Seals, American Heart Association, St. Jude Hospital, supported a child in Haiti for 9 years, missionaries in Africa through my church at Nazarene. I have done volunteer work at my children’s elementary school helping children learn to read and have always supported the home and school associations at the schools my children attended. I love to read and have a large library of books. I volunteered during President Obama’s Campaign and attended as a guest at the Democratic Convention in San Francisco when Rev. Jesse Jackson ran for president in 1984. I believe in the political process of voting and believe any affective change must come from the right people being in office who truly care about all people. I never miss voting since I started age 21.
